Expeditionary plans on 2006 year

Arctic by night.

The centre Polus began its season in 2006 with the organization of logical support of Borge’s Ousland and Mike’s Horn expedition. Within the limits of the first part the centre Polus improve cooperation with the agency Vikaar have:
1. Got all the necessary authorizations, organized the conducting of frontier and customs supervision.
2. Delivered expeditionary equipment and white gas to the place of expeditionary start.
3. Provided accompanying to members of expedition from the very moment of their arrival to Moscow till the place of their start.
4. Organized transporting of skiers on helicopters to the starting place – the Arctic Cape in Archipelago North Land.
5. Provided search and rescue services if necessary.

In February 2006 the agency Vikaar in cooperation with the Centre Polus is planning to start 5 expeditions from the Arctic Cape from the end point in latitude 88° North from the side of Canada (2 expedition on draught dogs; 3 – on skis).

Borge and Mike made plan to reach the point of the North Pole by the end of March. In view of that the Centre Polus is planning to set up ice camp Barneo, destined for supporting different expeditions at the end of May as well. Taking down the skiers from the North Pole would be accomplished by helicopters Mi-8 including the transporting to Barneo, and then by the first passenger flight of An-74 the skiers would be transported to Longyear.

Boyarski

Victor Boyarski the famous Pole explorer is guiding to the ice base 5 tourist groups of the different levels this year from ice-camp Barneo.

Barneo - 2006

There would be some changes this year on Barneo: 2 mess-rooms 72 meters each would be set (one for the tourists, another for the staff); 12 heat accommodation modules (30 sq. meters) of new construction tested in 2005 year.

There will be 4 cargo flights with use of Il- 76 and An-12; 4 cargo and 9 passenger flights of An-74 and series of chartered flights on special programs. Except these traditional programs (The Latest Grade, Parachutist, Express and Three Days' Tourist) there would be a program Skier of Three Days.

This year in April the Centre Polus is providing support of expedition of Richard Weber. During the expedition the Centre Polus will provide several transports by helicopter Mi-8 and taking down Richard Weber from the point of the North Pole to the ice base on Barneo and ferry to Longyear.

As it was in the last several years we will continue to provide support of scientific project of the Washington University NPEO and we will give them fuel. Accommodation on Barneo and helicopters for executing the problem put by.

The Expedition of Monaco Prince Albert II

The Centre Polus together with the Adventure Club of Dmitry and Matvey Shparo is providing expeditionary support of the expedition of Monaco Prince Albert II and of his group. They intend to reach the North Pole in several days on draught dogs.

International Pole Year

The President of Russia decreed the head of the Association of Polar Explorers of Russia, the Doctor of Geography, Hero of the Soviet Union title holder Arthur Chilingarov to be the special representative of International Pole Year.

Antarctic region - 2006

Russian group of polar explorers under the supervision of Arthur Chilingarov left for Antarctic region in short-term expedition.
